NetEase.com Suspends Air Ticket Booking Service

BEIJING, Apr 21, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- NetEase.com Inc. (Nasdaq: NTES), one of the renowned online service providers in China, has suspended operation of its newly-launched air ticket booking service because of a termination of cooperation with Junli.net.

In a statement made on its website lately, NetEase.com said that it would pause the operation of its air ticket booking service as part of a business adjustment. The suspension, disclosed Liu Youcai (transliterated), public relations manager for NetEase.com, comes as a result of a bankruptcy of Junli.net, the sole supplier of air tickets for NetEase.com.

It is still unclear when the business adjustment will come to an end, according to Mr. Liu, declining to make a comment on the reported talks between NetEase.com and other air ticket suppliers in the country. There are widespread reports that NetEase.com is in talks with the Junli.net peers for possible cooperation in air ticket booking service.

Such a suspension comes not than 100 days after the Internet portal operator made its expansion into the online traveling service market heard with the launch of an air ticket booking service at the end of 2010. NetEase.com, based in Beijing, announced that it would make low-priced air tickets from big airlines available to netizens nationwide.

Different from some of its peers, NetEase.com chose to become a distributor of the big air ticket agent for a tapping into the air ticket booking serivce. Taobao.com, an online shopping platform under the aegis of e-commerce heavyweight Alibaba Group, cut into the air ticket booking service market by rolling out an integrated traveling service platform.

NetEase.com, as a smaller air ticket distributor under Junli.net, will find it difficult to press ahead with its air ticket booking service in the formidable competition after its third-party air ticket distributor partner runs short of capital, pointed out a market observer. Junli.net, based in Shanghai, is one of the biggest air ticket distributors in the country.

Nevertheless, NetEase.com does not expect to generate a big profit from the online air ticket sales platform, according to Mr. Liu, noting that the company meant to bring low-priced air tickets within the reach of online service users in the country with a rollout of the service.

Statistics show that online traveling reservation service in China added up to CNY 6.16 billion in the entire 2010, hiking 58.4% from CNY 3.89 billion in the previous year.

Australia is set to add to its medal tally at the pool .. in cycling and in shooting
on day five of Olympic competition in Beijing today.

And STEPHANIE RICE is poised to become the first Australian to win more than one medal
when she swims in the 200 metres individual medley.

In non-medal action .. six rowing crews will be on the water .. sailing continues at
Qingdao .. and in men's hockey the Kookaburras play their second match having beaten Canada
6-1 in their first.

Australia picked up more medals overnight with the equestrian eventing team claiming
an Olympic silver medal .. one year after the horse flu outbreak brought the sport to
its knees.

Whitewater warrior ROBIN BELL also became the first Australian to win an Olympic medal
in a canoe.

BELL has gone better than his fourth place at the 2004 Athens Games .. claiming bronze
in the slalom C1 behind world champion MICHAL MARTIKAN of Slovakia and DAVID FLORENCE
of Britain who took silver.

But there was disappointment as well with rampant Spaniard RAFAEL NADAL showing leg-weary
LLEYTON HEWITT no mercy in ousting Australia's last remaining tennis player from the Olympic
singles draw last night.

NADAL .. who will officially dethrone ROGER FEDERER as world No.1 at the completion
of the Beijing Games .. buried HEWITT 6-1 6-2 in 90 minutes .. to stay on track for his
eighth title of a spectacular 2008 season.

Australia also lost its opening game in the Olympic softball competition 4-3 to Japan.

Meanwhile .. Channel Seven has rescheduled its telecast of this weekend's round of
AFL matches to maximise its coverage of the busiest day of the Beijing Olympics.

part of Russia.

Russian forces moved into Georgia on Friday .. after the Georgian army launched an
offensive to bring break-away South Ossetia back under government control.

that more than 100-thousand people have been displaced.

NSW: Doctors challenged to present evidence of waiting times

SYDNEY, April 3 AAP - Doctors alleging NSW hospitals are fudging figures on waiting
times should present their information to authorities, NSW Health Minister Reba Meagher
says.

Ms Meagher today told NSW Parliament two hospitals - Sydney's Prince of Wales and Gosford
- would have their emergency department waiting time figures audited, along with nine
other hospitals.

It follows confirmation last week from NSW Health that one person was found to have
doctored emergency department waiting time figures at Gosford Hospital.

That matter was referred to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

Ms Meagher said the audits were in response to doctors' claims figures had to be doctored
in order to meet targets.

NSW Health has written to the doctors who had made the allegations, asking them to
come forward with their information, Ms Meagher said.

"Let's make it very clear that the doctors who are making those allegations are, in
fact, the managers of their units," Ms Meagher told reporters.

"They should take very seriously the allegations they are making."

Ms Meagher said the government took very seriously the performance reporting of its
hospital and that was why independent audits were being undertaken.

CANBERRA, Dec 1 AAP - Free bus travel will be offered to cyclists who use Canberra

ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said the initiative is part of the government's climate

"As part of the governments commitment to creating a viable and effective public transport
system, bicycle riders who place their bikes on the racks provided by ACTION buses will,
from Monday, be entitled to travel on that bus at no cost," Mr Stanhope said in a statement.

There are 74 ACTION buses fitted with the racks which can hold two bikes at a time.

Mr Stanhope said if both rack spaces were occupied a cyclist would have to wait for
the next bus fitted with a bike rack to travel for free.

The ACT government has pledged to fit a further 50 buses with the racks by early next year.

NSW: Warnings on alcohol for pregnant women

SYDNEY, Dec 17 AAP - Warning labels on alcohol may soon appear in NSW following reports
of the doubling of birth defects due to women drinking during their pregnancies.

Infants born with foetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), which causes birth defects and mental
retardation, have doubled in NSW from 15 in 2001 to 32 in 2004.

But experts believe the real figure is 10 times higher, News Limited newspapers report.

And research suggests just one bout of binge drinking can cause FAS, leaving children
with life-long behavioural and learning disabilities.

NSW Health Minister John Hatzistergos said the government is researching new alcohol
pregnancy guidelines which may include rolling out the health advisory labels.

"We need to know two things," Mr Hatzistergos told News Limited. "What impact drinking
during pregnancy has and what is the nature of any warning that should be provided on
alcohol products."

No national standard exists for drinking during pregnancy.

University of Sydney paediatrics health professor Elizabeth Elliott told News Limited
for every child with FAS there are 10 more with neuro-developmental problems caused by
alcohol.

State and federal ministers discussed a nationwide approach to FAS at last week's ministerial
council on drug strategy.

Mr Hatzistergos told News Limited a working party would examine research and discuss
what alcohol warning labels would say.

Fed: Beazley, Tuckey in toe-to-toe clash

By Peter Veness

CANBERRA, Aug 10 AAP - Labor leader Kim Beazley and Liberal MP Wilson Tuckey have clashed
outside Parliament House in a fiery toe-to-toe verbal confrontation over changes to migration
law.

With their faces within centimetres of each other, Mr Beazley labelled the government
backbencher "weak", prompting Mr Tuckey to call him a "fat so and so".

The clash erupted as Mr Tuckey, a veteran former government minister nicknamed "Ironbar",
spoke to the media about the migration changes while Mr Beazley waited nearby for his
turn to talk to reporters.

"Oh here's Kim," Mr Tuckey said as he spotted Mr Beazley.

"This is not about Liberals, this is about you mob," he said, referring to Labor.

Mr Beazley, with a faint smile, first told Mr Tuckey to "take your tablets".

"Don't you insult me with tablets," Mr Tuckey shot back.

"I'm asking you why you are defying the Australian people on border protection."

With a hand on Mr Tuckey's shoulder, Mr Beazley urged the Liberal MP: "Off you go mate,
off you go, off you go mate."

But Mr Tuckey refused to move, saying he was entitled to stand outside the doors of parliament.

"Now I'm interviewing you, I'm asking you why your entire party is going to kill off
legislation that the Australian people want," Mr Tuckey said.

The clash then became more heated and the two West Australian politicians closed in
on each other, chins thrust forward.

Mr Beazley said Mr Tuckey was supporting "weak sop legislation".

"Why don't you take your weak, worthless self in there with the weak, worthless piece
of legislation," the Labor leader said, pointing towards the parliament doors.

Tuckey fired back angrily: "Don't you call me weak ... you fat so and so."

He then left Mr Beazley to make his morning address to reporters.

Mr Beazley urged government MPs opposing the bill to stay the course.

"I would urge all patriotic Liberals, Liberals with a nationalistic spirit top get
in behind a bit of strength and oppose this worthless, weak legislation."

The House of Representatives will today vote on the changes, which force illegal boat
refugees into offshore processing centres.

A small group of Liberals have voiced opposition to the changes and have said they
will vote with Labor.

Mr Beazley said the group were being bullied by some in their party.

"Following Wilson Tuckey's extreme behaviour this morning, I can only imagine the sort
of pressure those MPs and senators would feel they are coming under," he said in a statement.

"The ugly face of this bullying was on display this morning.

"It has no place in the Australian parliament."

SYDNEY, April 4 AAP - China's Premier Wen Jiabao has held talks with NSW Premier Morris

giant.

Mr Wen arrived in Sydney just before 9am (AEST) today, where he was greeted by Mr Iemma
for the last official engagement of his four-day visit to Australia.

Yesterday, Mr Wen signed agreements with Prime Minister John Howard, paving the way
for contentious sales of Australian uranium to China.

After his private talks with Mr Iemma at Kingsford-Smith Airport, Mr Wen was whisked
away in a convoy of commonwealth cars, accompanied by a police escort.

Mr Iemma said today's talks were significant in continuing NSW's valuable relationship
with China.

"NSW greatly values our relationship with China and our mutual trade, investment and
cultural links," Mr Iemma said.

"Our discussions will further enhance our longstanding friendship."

Members of the NSW government will hold further talks with representative from the
Chinese province of Guangdong at a biennial Joint Economic Meeting in Sydney later this
year.

The forum - between the two sister states - was first established in 1982 to allow
for regular dialogue on reciprocal commercial opportunities.

Mr Iemma said the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 would offer significant opportunities
for local businesses, especially following Sydney's success and experience at hosting
the 2000 Olympics.

"China's unprecedented growth presents a range of new business opportunities in diverse
markets such as biotechnology, education, tourism and sporting events," Mr Iemma said.

"Our ties will become closer in the lead-up to the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008."

A number of NSW businesses are already playing a part in the Games organisation, including
design of the athletes' village and development of the Olympics' initial master plan,
Mr Iemma said.

This Valentine's Day, People Say 'All You Need Is Love,' According to Online Survey by Quicken.com.

Romance Prevails Over Money

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Have you ever asked yourself if money could be the key to happiness? According to an online survey conducted by Intuit's Quicken.com (www.Quicken.com), today's romantic relationships are more focused on love than money. Perhaps the phrases "all you need is love," and "for richer, for poorer," do really ring true.

According to the "For Love and Money" survey of more than 500 Internet users, 51 percent of respondents said they hardly ever argue with their significant other about money. Only 17 percent said they have ever ended a relationship because of money, and only 12 percent said they have ever dated someone because they have a lot of money.

"It's a healthy sign that money takes a back seat to love in the hearts and minds of most couples," said Quicken.com's Managing Editor Tony Cook. "But mastery of personal finances can be better for romance than candy and flowers at Valentine's."

Is Money the Key to Happiness?

Nearly 80 percent of respondents said that money is not the key to happiness. Interestingly, 59 percent of the people who responded to the survey said they think about money more than once a day. This compares to 66 percent of the respondents who think of sex more than once a day.

People Don't Overspend on Valentine's Day

When asked how much they plan to spend on their sweetheart this Valentine's Day, 88 percent of the survey respondents said they will spend less than $100. This is about the same percentage as compared to last year. Surprisingly, however, 38 percent say that they have bought an expensive gift to make up for an argument with their significant other.

Little firms on the big stage.

Provided by 7DAYS.ae

IteCOs a sad fact that small businesses, even if they are doing great things, have to play second fiddle to corporate giants when it comes to media coverage and often go unnoticed by the general public. To redress the balance in favour of the little guys, Lloyds TSB is today launching its third annual Small Business Awards, open to any private UAE business with revenue of under dhs100 million a year and employing less than 100 full-time staff. If you fit the bill, why not enter ; Someone does appreciate you!Aa eC[pounds sterling]Small businesses are at the heart of any economy and are often the catalysts for tremendous success throughout a sector,eC[yen] says Bert de Ruiter, managing director of Lloyds TSB Middle East. eC[pounds sterling]It is rare for the passion and drive in a small business to be replicated among global players, which is often where the attraction to the consumer comes in. There is a particular attention to detail and enthusiasm that is unique to small businesses and which have benefits within the particular sector - raising standards and expectations in the broader economy.eC[yen] Indeed, small firms are often overshadowed by more illustrious rivals even though they provide equally compelling value to consumers. eC[pounds sterling]These smaller businesses struggle to receive the media exposure that the bigger businesses do and the awards are a vehicle to provide just that - exposure - with the added support and sway of notable, global brands as sponsors,eC[yen] de Ruiter explains.If youeCOre a small business craving recognition, the SBAs could be your chance to shine, as well get your hands on a wad of cash and other prizes donated by the sponsors - including 7DAYS advertising space! But thereeCOs a little bit more work to do yet. The application phase is now open and runs until September 18, so get online and do the needful. The top brass at Lloyds TSB will then sift through the entries and shortlist who they believe are the best three firms in each of the categories. Should you make it that far, youeCOll then have the chance to present your case in person to the panel - made up of the sponsoreCOs MD and established UAE industry professionalsAa - during the two-day judging period in October, before the winners are announced at a glitzy prize-giving ceremony. Over 150 applications were made last year, with Dubai-based EnviroServe ultimately scooping the dhs50,000 prize money put up by Lloyds TSB for the overall Small Business of the Year award. With the bank expecting another big response to this yeareCOs competition, what tips can de Ruiter offer those mulling a pop at the crown ;eC[pounds sterling]The judges enjoyed presentations across many industries last year, noting passion and innovation as the two most striking attributes of the winners,eC[yen] he says. eC[pounds sterling]The overall winner, Enviroserve, whose crusade to stamp a green footprint on Dubai is unrivalled, demonstrated leadership in its industry, as well as a genuine desire to succeed, a sound business model and impressive business acumen. Judges this year will be looking for similar traits and, perhaps, that little something that has not been seen before.eC[yen]So, the best of luck to you. And if the SBAs do propel you into the business big league, doneCOt forget where you came from, okay ;

Research from University of Houston Yields New Data on Epithelial Cells.(Report)

Current study results from the report, "Highly variable contents of phenolics in St. John's Wort products affect their transport in the human intestinal Caco-2 cell model: pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical rationale for product standardization," have been published. According to a study from Houston, United States, "The purposes of this study were to determine content uniformity of phenolics in the St. John's wort (SJW) supplements and to demonstrate how variations in the product matrices affect their absorption and efflux."

"LC and LC-MS/MS methods were used to determine the phenolic contents of 12 different products purchased locally or from the Internet. Three representative extracts were further submitted to Caco-2 cell transport experiment, and transport of rutin, hyperoside, and isoquercitrin was evaluated. The results indicated that the 12 different products displayed 12 different HPLC fingerprints, but all products contained the following major compounds: rutin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, quercitrin, quercetin, and amentoflavone. The content uniformity of these major compounds was poor across products, with the smallest difference in the amounts of amentoflavone (3.6-fold) and largest difference in that of isoquercitrin (28.8-fold). The Caco-2 experiments indicated transport of rutin in products was vectorial, with the permeabilities varied about 3.6-fold in both directions of transport. The vectorial permeabilities of hyperoside and isoquercitrin were similarly different. Use of efflux transporter inhibitor studies suggested that MRP2 was involved in isoquercitrin's efflux and the product matrix affected the extent of its efflux," wrote S. Gao and colleagues, University of Houston (see also Epithelial Cells).

The researchers concluded: "Different SJW supplements had highly variable contents of phenolics, and the variability in product matrix and phytochemical compositions affected the permeabilities of key phenolics across the Caco-2 monolayers, which may further affect their bioavailabilities. Therefore, standardization will be necessary to ensure safe and efficacious using of supplements such as SJW."

Gao and colleagues published their study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (Highly variable contents of phenolics in St. John's Wort products affect their transport in the human intestinal Caco-2 cell model: pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical rationale for product standardization. Assange gets on our Wik.(News)

Byline: ANTONY STONE

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange was heckled at a literary festival yesterday.

He ducked a question about the US soldier who faces spending the rest of his life in jail for allegedly leaking classified information to the whistle-blowing website.

Assange was a surprise late addition to the programme at the Hay Festival of Literature in mid-Wales.

He was asked if his own brief spell in prison - when he was refused bail while facing extradition to Sweden over a rape accusation -had made him better appreciate Private Bradley Manning's plight.

When Assange failed to give an adequate answer, one audience member shouted: "Answer the question."

During his appearance, the internet activist also revealed that WikiLeaks habitually destroy all records of their sources, adding: "The only way to make sure you have no secrets is to not collect any."

And talking about the prodemocracy revolution in Egypt, the controversial Australian said he detested the "mid-brow squeamishness" of Brits.

He said they "would rather destroy an entire revolution, and keep a country in dictatorship, than risk being blamed for the tiniest thing".

Scientists at Kyoto University School of Medicine Publish Research in Data Storage.(Report)

Research findings, 'Development and evaluation of a low-cost and high-capacity DICOM image data storage system for research,' are discussed in a new report. "Thin-slice CT data, useful for clinical diagnosis and research, is now widely available but is typically discarded in many institutions, after a short period of time due to data storage capacity limitations. We designed and built a low-cost high-capacity Digital Imaging and COmmunication in Medicine (DICOM) storage system able to store thin-slice image data for years, using off-the-shelf consumer hardware components, such as a Macintosh computer, a Windows PC, and network-attached storage units. 'Ordinary' hierarchical file systems, instead of a centralized data management system such as relational database, were adopted to manage patient DICOM files by arranging them in directories enabling quick and easy access to the DICOM files of each study by following the directory trees with Windows Explorer via study date and patient ID," researchers in Kyoto, Japan report.

"Software used for this system was open-source OsiriX and additional programs we developed ourselves, both of which were freely available via the Internet. The initial cost of this system was about $3,600 with an incremental storage cost of about $900 per 1 terabyte (TB). This system has been running since 7th Feb 2008 with the data stored increasing at the rate of about 1.3 TB per month. Total data stored was 21.3 TB on 23rd June 2009. The maintenance workload was found to be about 30 to 60 min once every 2 weeks," wrote M. Yakami and colleagues, Kyoto University School of Medicine.

The researchers concluded: "This newly developed DICOM storage system is useful for research due to its cost-effectiveness, enormous capacity, high scalability, sufficient reliability, and easy data access."

Yakami and colleagues published their study in the Journal of Digital Imaging (Development and evaluation of a low-cost and high-capacity DICOM image data storage system for research. Journal of Digital Imaging, 2011;24(2):190-5).

CreditRiskMonitor to License Counterparty Quality Scores From Institutional Risk Analytics.

VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. and TORRANCE, Calif., May 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CreditRiskMonitor (Pink Sheets: CRMZ) and Institutional Risk Analytics ("IRA") announced today a licensing agreement that will provide all CreditRiskMonitor subscribers access to the new IRA Counterparty Quality Scores ("CQ Scores"). The CQ Scores are designed to give depositors and other bank counterparties warning of possible failure.

The CQ Scores are part of IRA's Bank Monitor ratings and analytics system and were specifically developed to complement corporate ratings tools such as CRMZ's proven FRISK scores. "Our bank stress letter ratings are designed for consumers," notes IRA CEO Dennis Santiago, who leads the design of IRA's ratings and analytics products. "We developed the CQ Scores with the team at CRMZ specifically to meet the needs of corporate treasurers, underwriters and risk managers who need to make decisions on commercial credit."

CreditRiskMonitor subscribers will now have access to CQ Scores for about 7,000 FDIC insured banks and 5,000 bank holding companies. The addition of the new CQ Scores to the over 25,000 FRISK score ratings already available on public companies world-wide represents a significant increase in predictive-score coverage available on the CreditRiskMonitor service.

"The CQ Score is an exciting addition to our credit analysis service, for subscribers who want to quickly evaluate and monitor their cash management and letter-of-credit banking relationships," said Jerry Flum, CEO of CreditRiskMonitor. "We did a complete due diligence review of the CQ Score over a whole business cycle, and are very impressed with its ability to identify those banks most likely to be 'resolved' by banking regulators. The CQ Score is an efficient first step in a review process for bank counterparties. Plus, as has been our practice, we have added this exciting new capability to our service at no additional charge to subscribers.

The CQ Scores cover nearly all public and privately held banks, savings and loan institutions, and bank holding companies in the U.S. The CQ Scores are generated by a proprietary model designed by IRA to rank banks according to the likelihood of failure, being 'resolved' by the bank regulators. Data used in the model are derived entirely from objective fundamental data that banks are required to file with the FDIC.

"We believe that the U.S. banking industry is now in a new period of crisis," notes IRA co-founder and Managing Director Christopher Whalen, who recently issued a report downgrading the outlook on operating results for the U.S. banking sector. "We expect foreclosures to peak in 2011, and a continued wave of bank failures during 2011 and 2012."

Whalen, who runs IRA's advisory practice and is author of the book "Inflated: How Money and Debt Built the American Dream" adds, "Some banks have recapitalized successfully, but most have not. Smart CFOs and Treasurers will keep a watchful eye on their banking counterparties, especially this year and next, and doing this via CreditRiskMonitor is an excellent value."

Because of its unique approach to collecting and analyzing quarterly FDIC bank data, IRA is able to reduce the traditional 60-day+ delay and deliver a CQ Score as little as 30 days after the quarter end. The CQ Score utilizes a simple ratings scale from 1 to 8, with the highest number being the top (least risky) rating score.

"More recently," notes Flum, "we looked at every bank failure in the past 12 months, and we saw that nearly all of the failed banks had low CQ Scores for at least two quarters before being 'resolved.' At the same time, we found that CQ Scores in the risky 1 to 4 range are unusual, shown for only a small fraction of banks. We feel confident that the CQ Scores are going to be a great value for CRMZ customers. As the U.S. banking system works its way through the next couple of years of necessary consolidation and renewal, we want to help our users maximize business opportunities and avoid risk."

John Hancock Financial Announces Top Male Contenders for 2008 Boston Marathon.

- Defending Champion Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot Aims To Be First Four-Time Winner From Kenya

- 2007 Chicago Champion Patrick Ivuti And 2007 Boston Runner-Up James Kwambai Headline List Of Top International Challengers

BOSTON, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In its 23rd year as the principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon, John Hancock Financial announced their team of top male contenders for the 112th running of the race on April 21.

Three-time Boston Champion Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot is set to defend his title against 2007 Chicago Champion Patrick Ivuti, 2007 Boston Runner-up James Kwambai and 15 other top international athletes.

Cheruiyot, the course record holder and winner in 2003, 2006 and 2007, has added incentive to win as he will seek to become the first Kenyan to claim four Boston Marathon crowns. Cheruiyot also won Chicago in 2006, Milan in 2002 and was named the inaugural World Marathon Majors Series Champion last year.

Leading this year's challenges is 2007 Chicago Marathon winner Patrick Ivuti of Kenya, who is determined to begin his own legacy on the Boston course. In one of the most exciting marathon finishes of all time, Ivuti won in Chicago last year by .05 of a second over two-time World Champion Jaouad Gharib of Morocco. He also bested Cheruiyot in the pair's first head-to-head marathon, as Cheruiyot finished fourth after fading from the leaders in the oppressive heat.

A two-time World Cross Country silver medalist, Ivuti also competed in the 10,000m at the Sydney Olympics where he finished fourth, less than a second out of the medals. Ivuti excelled in his 2005 marathon debut turning in a fast 2:07:46 in Chicago. In 2007 he won the Prague Half Marathon in a course record 1:01:00 and in Rotterdam improved his personal best to 59:27.

John Hancock also announced the return of 2007 runner up James Kwambai, who showed his potential by challenging Cheruiyot until the final mile last year. Kwambai debuted in 2006, winning his first two marathons in Brescia and Beijing. With experience on the course now and respect for Cheruiyot's racing strategy, Kwambai is determined to win this year.

"Since I was young, I have worked hard to be a good athlete, and I hope to be able to realize this dream by making a good result in the Boston Marathon," he said.

Additional top contenders on the John Hancock Elite Team include last year's third place finisher Stephen Kiogora of Kenya and Gashaw Asfaw of Ethiopia, the 2006 Paris winner and 2007 Paris and Mumbai runner up. Also at the start will be Abderrahime Bouramdane of Morocco, the 2007 runner up in Seoul and Ottawa and past winner of Tunis, Marrakesh and Ottawa, and William Kiplagat of Kenya, who was runner up in Lake Biwa in 2007 and past winner in Seoul and Rotterdam.

Other athletes of note include Shadrack Kiplagat of Kenya, a 2:07 marathoner, and Christopher Cheboiboch, a past Boston and New York City runner up and 2007 Las Vegas winner.

Young talent set for this world class race includes 21-year-old Yirefu Birhanu of Ethiopia, who won Baltimore in 2006 and finished third in Seoul in 2007, and 23-year-old James Mwangi Macharia of Kenya, who finished second in Vienna in 2007 in his marathon debut.

These top athletes will join the complete John Hancock Elite Team, which will be announced in March.

M2 PRESSWIRE-17 August 2006-NORTEL NETWORKS: Infoforum Honors Nortel for Technology Integration Efforts in Russia Localized VPN Router First to Comply to Russian Crypto Standards(C)1994-2006 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

RDATE:17082006

MOSCOW - Nortel* [NYSE/TSX:NT] Russia was recently honored by Infoforum, the Russian Forum for Information Security, for adapting Nortel solutions for local use in information security applications. The award was granted specifically for the development of the Nortel IP VPN router - the first and to date the only router offered by a major international vendor with built-in Russian crypto algorithms. This technology ensures secure connectivity across managed IP networks and the Internet and is enabling the creation of secure, scalable, resilient, high-performance virtual private networks (VPNs) across Russia.

"The Russian Federation is a major growth market of strategic importance to Nortel and this award is a well-deserved tribute to Nortel employees who are working hard to ensure that Nortel-enabled communications make a positive difference in Russia," said Sorin Lupu, president Eastern Europe, Nortel.

The award certificate was presented in summer 2006 to Vladimir Smirnov, general manager Enterprise Sales, Channels and Marketing for Russia, CIS and Baltics, by Victor Gorbachev, chief of the Communications Security Centre of the Federal Security Service. Gorbachev is one of the key officials in charge of security in Russia's IT and telecommunications sector.

"We have put a lot of effort into localizing our solutions and establishing Nortel as trustworthy partner for Russian Government and business," said Smirnov. "The Infoforum award is an important milestone for Nortel in Russia and I am proud of the effort displayed by Nortel's Moscow team to make this happen."

A second Infoforum award was granted to Nortel for providing assistance in arranging some of the key events for information security in the Russian Federation. This award was presented to Nortel's Maxim Kiselev, leader Enterprise Marketing for Russia, CIS and Baltics, by Alexander Korsak the head of the Economic Security Department of Moscow City Government.

"Infoforum was established to bring together efforts of business and authorities. I am glad that this formula is working for and helping to develop IT in Russia and improve information security," said Alexander Zhukov, executive secretary, Infoforum. "Nortel is an active participant in this process, and these awards recognize this. I congratulate Nortel and its managers."

Infoforum runs a series of events throughout the Russian Federation on information security topics for government and businesses. Infoforum is organized by Russian governmental bodies, such as the State Duma Committee for Security, Security Council of Russian Federation, Federal Agency for Information Technologies of the Russian Federation, and the Moscow City Government. Infoforum is supported by a number of government agencies and trade associations committed to the development of Russia's IT and telecommunications sector.
