NSW: CFMEU meeting planned after Shell fire inquiry

Workers will meet tomorrow to discuss concerns following a fire at the Shell oil refinery
at Clyde in Sydney's west.

LORRAINE USHER, of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, says they've
imposed bans on so-called hot work, such as welding, until a report on the incident is
completed.

The fire broke out late Friday night in a unit used by the refinery to convert crude
oil into refined petroleum products.

The unit had earlier been shut down for maintenance.

Shell says the fire isn't considered suspicious.

Ms USHER says the union's concerned that WorkCover has asked Shell to investigate the
fire internally and report back.

She says it's just luck that no-one was killed, and WorkCover should be investigating
the incident.
